When creating an alert, select the location(s) you want to monitor. You’ll receive alerts whenever new weed records are detected in those areas that match the other alert settings you have enabled.
Location
You can select one of these three options:
- All of New Zealand
- North Island / Te Ika-a-Māui
- South Island / Te Waipounamu
or you can search for a place name, with the option of filtering it by one of the buttons below the search bar:
SWAT currently supports the following types of locations:
- Region (areas administered by regional councils and unitary authorities)
- District (areas administered by territorial authorities i.e. district and city councils, and by local boards)
- Suburb (including rural areas classified as localities)
- Island (populated and larger islands)
- Iwi Area of Interest (as published by Te Puni Kōkiri, see here for details)
- DOC Operations District (the defined administrative areas the Department of Conservation uses to structure its operational work)
In future, other location types will be added.
You can select multiple locations for a single alert, including different types of location if you wish.
The centroid of each location is shown on the map.
Buffer zone
You can add a buffer zone around your selected location so you’ll be alerted to weed records nearby, giving you early warning before new weeds spread into the area. To do this, adjust the slider below the map to set your preferred buffer distance.
Advanced users may also be interested in setting the location uncertainty threshold in the advanced settings.
After selecting your locations, you can optionally fine‑tune your advanced settings and then review your alert.
