Find out how it works

SWAT is a free digital tool that sends email alerts when new weed records appear in New Zealand. It’s for anyone, including keen locals, a conservation volunteers, researchers and people working on weed management for an organisation.

As a SWAT user, you create personalised alerts for the weeds and locations you care about. SWAT automatically scans new weed records uploaded to GBIF (the Global Biodiversity Information Facility). These records come from sources such as iNaturalist, government and regional agencies, herbaria and other contributors. When a new record matches your alert settings, SWAT emails you.

Each alert email includes direct links to the individual weed records, so you can see their locations and find out more about each species.
