Description
The Otago Regional Pest Management Plan (RPMP) sets out how specific pest species will be managed in the Otago Region. It is managed by Otago Regional Council.
Note that inclusion of a species on a RPMP does not necessarily mean that the species is managed across the whole region. To find out how a particular weed species is managed in your area, refer to the RPMP on the Otago Regional Council website.
Taxonomy note
SWAT uses the global Catalogue of Life taxonomy, which does not always align with the taxonomies used in New Zealand. As a result, the species names or synonym relationships in the RPMP may differ from those used in SWAT. To see how the species in this RPMP are represented in SWAT, refer to the species list by management programme.
This RPMP mentions Lindavia intermedia as an Organism of Interest. GBIF doesn't currently recognise this species, so it cannot be included in SWAT alerts. For more details and a workaround, see here.
Management agencies
Weeds in this RPMP are managed under the following programmes:
- Exclusion: Aims to prevent pests that are not yet present in the region from establishing
- Eradication: Aims to completely remove the pest from the region over time
- Progressive Containment: Aims to reduce the area over which a pest is spread gradually
- Sustained Control: Ongoing control to reduce the pest’s impacts and limit its spread to other properties
- Site-led: (or Protecting values in place) - Targets the pest in specific areas to protect the values of that place
- Organism of Interest: Advisory species that don't yet have official pest status in the RPMP
